In May 2011 a delegation representing the Maize Industry of Australia visited key Associations and end-users in Japan and Korea. The 8-member delegation consisted of representatives from the growers, grain traders and the seed industry. The GRDC provided funding for 5 growers to join the delegation, including the two presenters. This presentation gives an overview of the trip from the growers view-point. Businesses and facilities visited include starch producers and snack-food manufacturers. The importance of growers understanding and realising what happens to their produce when it leaves the farm gate was an important part of the learning process. Also highlighted was the importance of trust and relationships when dealing with Asian buyers. As a follow up to the trip, subsequent reciprocal visits to growers in Australia has further cemented the relationship.
