David Cattanach
David Cattanach has been a farmer at Darlington Point for the last 35 years. On his 600ha property he grows a range of winter and summer crops, under irrigation. His main crops are soft wheat and malting barley in the winter and corn, soybean and sunflowers in the summer. In the 2012/13 season his summer cropping program has encompassed 80ha of sunflower, 70ha of maize and 40 ha of soybean.
David was a 2004 recipient of a Nuffield Scholarship where he travelled overseas to Canada and the USA to Greenhouse emissions and the potential impacts on climate change. Since returning from his Nuffield trip he has continued to develop his interest in climate change, currently as a member of the master class in the Primary Industries Adaptation Research Network (PIARN) – which is focusing on adaptation for agriculture in the face of climate change.
